Updated: February 1, 2026
The easy technique that keeps mint bright instead of bruised and bitter.
Fun fact
Mint gets bitter when it’s shredded. Think “press,” not “mash.”

- 2 oz white rum
- 1 oz lime
- 2 tsp sugar (or 0.75 oz syrup)
- 8–10 mint leaves
- Soda water
- Crushed ice
Method
- Gently press mint with sugar + lime
- Add rum + crushed ice
- Top with soda and lift mint to the top
Make it feel “expensive”
Use lots of clean crushed ice and a big mint sprig slapped between your hands for aroma.
